Welcome to East Coventry Elementary School

Dear East Coventry Families,

Welcome to the 2016-17 school year at East Coventry Elementary School.

What an exciting year this is going to be for the East Coventry Elementary School community!  We are anticipating the groundbreaking of the new elementary school that will support the education of students for many years to come.   The new facility will feature  a large media center that is situated in the center of the building with classrooms and support areas surrounding it.  The building will feature two floors of classroom space, a state-of –the art science lab and a large gymnasium and cafeteria.  The latest in educational technology will be spread throughout the building.  Construction updates and information can be found at: http://ojrsd.com/Page/6036

Even though a new facility will eventually house over 600 students, some things about East Coventry will never change.  What will remain constant is the warm and nurturing environment that exists in the school.  In addition, students will still receive a rigorous and demanding education that prepares them for the challenges that lie ahead.   Through the use of the Calkins Reading and Writing Units and the EveryDay Math Program, students will be engaged in reading, writing, speaking and problem-solving that challenge them to think in complex ways.

Another aspect of East Coventry that will not change is the incredible group of over 80 staff members who enjoy their work and spend countless hours away from the classroom preparing to educate over 600 students.  Together, the staff of East Coventry holds fast to the following beliefs:

•          A collective belief that all children can and will learn as a result of high quality instruction.

•          Accept no excuses.

•          Planning for instruction is thoughtful and takes into account individual student strengths and needs.

•          Student assessment data is analyzed on a consistent basis and instructional decisions are based upon the data.

•          In order for high-quality learning to take place, students need to feel safe and supportive.

Along with the support of our families, our PTA and our community, we make East Coventry “A Great Place to Be”!

I look forward to another successful school year.
